This invention relates generally to the potassium channel gene family. More particularly, the present invention relates to the cloning and characterization of potassium channel genes from Drosophila melanogaster and Caenorhabditis elegans. Other aspects of the present invention include methods of assaying substances to determine effects on cell growth. Also presented are methods of controlling nematode and insect pests by inhibiting potassium channels substantially homologous to those encoded by nucleotide sequences as described herein.

Cette invention se rapporte en général à la famille des gènes des canaux de potassium, et plus particulièrement au clonage et à la caractérisation des gènes des canaux de potassium provenant de Drosophila melanogaster et de Caenorhabditis elegans. L'invention se rapporte encore à des procédés de dosage de substances en vue de déterminer certains effets sur la prolifération cellulaire, et également à des procédés d'élimination des nématodes et des insectes et animaux nuisibles consistant à inhiber les canaux de potassium sensiblement homologues à ceux codés par des séquences nucléotidiques telles que celles décrites dans la demande.
