The present invention relates to methods and materials for the protection of plants against pathogens through plant genetic engineering; and more particularly to genes which enhance disease resistance in plants by encoding proteins that physically interact with R gene products involved in activation of plant defense mechanisms. The invention further relates to three nucleotide sequences which have been cloned, isolated and sequenced, three amino acid sequences encoded thereby and a transgenic plant and methods for making the same, the genome of the plant having incorporated therein a foreign nucleotide sequence selected in accordance with the invention which functions to enhance the plant's ability to resist pathogens.
La présente invention concerne des procédés et des matériaux pour la protection de végétaux contre des agents pathogènes par génie génétique appliqué aux végétaux. L'invention concerne plus particulièrement des gènes qui renforcent la résistance de végétaux aux maladies en codant des protéines qui interagissent physiquement avec des produits géniques de résistance (gènes R), lesquels ont une incidence sur l'activation des mécanismes de défense des végétaux. L'invention concerne en outre trois séquences nucléotidiques qui ont été clonées, isolées et séquencées, trois séquences d'acides aminés ainsi codées et une plante transgénique et des procédés d'obtention de celle-ci, une séquence nucléotidique étrangère étant incorporée au génome de ladite plante, séquence qui est sélectionnée conformément à l'invention et agit en renforçant la capacité de résistance de la plante à des agents pathogènes.
