The present invention provides new methods for the assessment of cancer risk in the general population. These methods utilize particular alleles of two or more genes, in combination, to identify individuals with increased or decreased risk of cancer. Exemplified is risk assessment for breast cancer in women. In addition, personal history measures such as age and race are used to further refine the analysis. Using such methods, it is possible to reallocate healthcare costs in cancer screening to patient subpopulations at increased cancer risk. It also permits identification of candidates for cancer prophylactic treatment.
La présente invention se rapporte à de nouveaux procédés permettant d'évaluer le risque de cancer dans l'ensemble de la population. Lesdits procédés utilisent des allèles particuliers d'au moins deux gènes, en combinaison, afin d'identifier les sujets présentant un risque accru ou moindre de contracter un cancer. L'invention s'intéresse notamment à l'évaluation du risque de cancer du sein chez les femmes. De plus, une mesure des antécédents personnels tels que l'âge et la race permettent d'affiner davantage l'analyse. Grâce auxdits procédés, il est possible de réattribuer les coûts de santé associés au dépistage du cancer aux sous-populations de patients présentant un risque de cancer accru. L'invention permet également d'identifier des candidats à un traitement préventif du cancer.
