Immunoglobulins which have been genetically engineered to express a predefined peptide epitope in the variable region or binding domain of the immunoglobulin. The epitope-containing immunoglobulins are useful in treating such diseases as autoim- mune disorders, as the epitoge inserted into the binding domain of the immunoglobulin is capable of inducing or preventing sen- sitization of the host to that epitope.
