A girth strap device is provided which includes an elongate extensible strap or band (1;11) adapted to extend around the chest of an animal and attachments (3;20) for attaching the strap (1;11) to an article, such as a saddle (4) for holding the strap or band (1;11) in tension. The girth strap includes a tension indicator (5;15) which allows a user to apply the strap to the animal at a selected tension. In one preferred construction, the strap (1;11) is formed from layers of elastomeric fabric material, such as neoprene, which can stretch as the animal's chest expands during breathing and movement without causing discomfort to the animal. The device has particular application to racehorses and allows a user to apply a selected tension within an optimum range from about 10kg to about 12 kg which is sufficient to hold a saddle securely on the horse without excessive tension restricting the performance of the horse.
La présente invention se rapporte à un dispositif sangle de type sous-ventrière qui comprend une bande ou sangle extensible allongée (1 ; 11) conçue pour être disposée autour du poitrail d'un animal ainsi que des fixations (3 ; 20) permettant de fixer la sangle (1 ; 11) à un article, tel qu'une selle (4), de manière à maintenir en tension ladite sangle ou bande (1 ; 11). Cette sangle de type sous-ventrière comporte un indicateur de tension (5 ; 15) qui permet à un utilisateur d'appliquer la sangle sur un animal avec une tension sélectionnée. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, la sangle (1 ; 11) est composée de couches de matière élastomère, telle que du néoprène, qui peut s'étirer à mesure que le poitrail de l'animal se dilate au cours de la respiration ou d'un mouvement sans provoquer d'inconfort pour l'animal. Le dispositif de la présente invention est particulièrement adapté aux chevaux de course et il permet à un utilisateur d'appliquer une tension sélectionnée dans une plage optimale allant d'environ 10 kg à environ 12 kg, ladite tension étant suffisante pour maintenir une selle en toute sécurité sur le cheval sans exercer de tension excessive pouvant limiter les performances du cheval.
