There is disclosed a process for preparing tacking agents for glass fiber insulation. The tacking agent solution is prepared by adding a condensed phosphate to an aqueous solution of aluminum orthophosphate to provide a homogeneous solution having an A1:P molar ratio of less than 1, preferably 1:3 and wherein the amount of condensed phosphate comprises from about 25 to about 75 percent of the total phosphate in the solution. The tacking agent is applied to glass fiber in the preparation of insulating articles and then heated to convert the tacking agent into a non-hygroscopic, water insoluble, amorphous, condensed aluminum phosphate polymer. The tacking agent resiliently tacks the glass fibers together so as to provide regain of shape after deformation of the fibers as by compression.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation de liants pour isolations en fibre de verre. La solution de liant s'obtient par adjonction d'un phosphate condensé dans une solution aqueuse d'orthophosphate d'aluminium de façon à réaliser une solution homogène présentant un rapport molaire Al/P inférieur à 1, de préférence 1/3, et dans lequel la quantité de phosphate condensé représente entre environ 25 % et 75 % du phosphate total de la solution. Le liant appliqué à la fibre de verre pendant la préparation des articles isolants se convertit par chauffage en polymère de phosphate d'aluminium condensé non hygroscopique, insoluble à l'eau, et amorphe. Ce liant assure une liaison élastique entre les fibres de verre, liaison qui permet le retour à la forme initiale après déformation des fibres par compression par exemple.
