ABSTRACT A conventional firescreen made from a heat resistant glass, used for an open wood burning stove or fireplace, is known to be much more efficient in the prevention of heat loss than a firescreen made from a steel wire mesh or a perforated steel plate. However, the glass firescreen can easily become stained by soot and smoke which therefore requires numerous cleanings. There is also the possibility of the glass shattering if a fire is allowed to become too large and hot. In this invention, the glass firescreen has an air intake diverting plate situated behind the glass plate at the lower and/or side portions of the glass frame allowing the formation of a moving air curtain over the rear surface of the glass which will protect the glass from the soot, smoke and excessive heat, and thereby assist in preventing said stain formation. - 1 -
