ABSTRACT: Grid electrodes of glassy carbon show good mechanical and electrical properties and can be manufactured in a simple manner with a great dimensional stability. Two alternative methods serve for the manufacture: first, a body of cured synthetic resin may be formed or be processed in such manner as to have the shape of the desired electrode, after which it is carbonized. Secondly, first a preshaped body of cured synthetic resin which is in the unprocessed state may be carbonized after which the resulting body of glassy carbon is further processed to the desired electrode, preferably by laser beam cutting. -22-
