ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A globe valve has a plug which is moveable into engagement with a seat with a suitable operating mechanism. The plug is guided for movement within a branch of the valve body by means of guide rods. The guide rods are formed separately from the valve body and are secured in position by the combination of protrusion engaging a pocket at one end of each rod and a fillet weld at the opposite end of each rod. The rods are preferably coated with a wear resistant material, for example stellite.
