ABSTRACT A glulam beam formed by top and bottom plates extending longitudinally along the beam separated by an assembly of smaller intermediate members stacked together between the top and bottom plates. All the intermediate members and plates are glued together along their planes of contact and the components arranged so that the grain of the top and bottom plates runs along the longitudinal axis of the beam and the grain of the intermediate members runs transversely to the beam and normal to the top and bottom plates.
