La présente invention se rapporte à des composés dérivés de sucres reproduisant les épitopes des sérotypes 3a et X de Shigella flexneri et à leur utilisation pour la préparation de compositions vaccinales. La présente invention se rapporte aussi à de nouveaux composés glycoconjugués comprenant des oligo- ou polysaccharides décrits ci- après, au procédé de synthèse de ces oligo- ou polysaccharides et glycoconjugués, à des dérivés de ces oligo- ou polysaccharides, à des compositions les contenant, ainsi qu'à l'utilisation des glycoconjugués à des fins de vaccination. La présente invention se rapporte enfin à des méthodes de diagnostic d'une infection de Shigella flexneri utilisant un ou plusieurs oligo- ou polysaccharides ou leur conjugués.
