A goalie skate having a shell with a foot protective portion and a blade having a rear tip which extends rearwardly beyond the foot protective portion of the shell. The shell further includes a rearward extension having a trailing edge which is aligned with the rear tip generally perpendicular to the skate blade, thereby eliminating any gaps past which a puck can slide at the back end of the goalie skate when the skate is stood on its end on the ice.
