The present invention relates to a golf ball having an increased shelf life, and a method for making the same. The golf ball has a moisture barrier layer surrounding the core. The moisture barrier layer has a low water vapor transmission rate in order to prevent the permeation of moisture into the core. The invention is particularly useful for two and multi-piece solid golf balls, but also can be applied to one-piece and wound golf balls.
