ABSTRACT This invention relates to the improvements to the performance of golf clubs by the addition of an extension to the butt end of the golf club,in the form of a rod with a variable mass system at the upper end and a threaded connection at the lower end that fits inside an insert that has been fixed in a recessed manner within the golf club shaft at the butt. The basic resonant frequency of this rod and mass system, can be adjusted during trials by the Golfer for optimum response and then secured for play, as required by the Rules of Golf. The invention augments the momentum transfer activities of the Golfer to the club during the final phase of the downswing just prior to ball impact and will be most beneficial to juniors, females and senior Golfers who cannot provide the required inertial mass values at the wrist and forearms, for optimum performance. The invention can also provide performance improvements for average male Golfers when using the longer clubs of advanced material construction. The invention also can be applied to putter clubs where it can be shown to minimise the effects of the spasmodic force inputs known as the "Yips" and also acts automatically in the generation of an accelerative state of the putter head during impact with the golf ball for best results.
