A wood type golf clubhead includes a face, a sole, a crown, a toe portion, a heel portion, and a hosel portion adjacent the heel portion. The hosel portion has an inverted or recessed portion which includes a generally concave wall. A hosel tube extends upwardly from the hosel portion. The hosel tube is supported within a boss which is formed integrally with the inside surface of the face. The hosel and boss coact to restrain relative rotation therebetween. An alignment groove is provided at the intersection between the face and the crown, and the groove includes a surface which lies within a plane which is substantially vertical when the clubhead is soled at address. The sole includes a flat portion for supporting the clubhead at address, and a rear wall curves upwardly and rearwardly from the flat portion to the crown. The toe portion and the crown merge at a relatively sharp angle to provide a streamlined shape.
