A shoe spike formed principally of thermoplastic material, and which incorporates an integral unthreaded fastening stud, to fit securely into a cavity in the shoe. An expansion device may also be used for insertion into the fastening stud, so as to expand the fastening stud within the cavity. An athletic shoe with such spike, is also disclosed.
