ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Conventionally, grab bars used in baths, showers and the like are either secured to a flange which in turn is held to a supporting surface by heavy duty screws or is welded to a flange and held by set screws to an attaching plate attached to the supporting surface. The first method is easily detached so that it can readily be stolen and the second method is rela- tively expensive inasmuch as the weld has to be ground plated and then polished. In hospitals, such devices have to be fre- quently and readily attached for cleaning. The present device comprises an apertured support plate securable to a wall sur- face or the like and an end cap is provided with a central socket within which the end of the hollow grab bar engages. A nut is spot welded or otherwise held within the end of the grab bar and a bolt holds the bar firmly within the socket. Recessed set screws adjacent the perimeter of the end cap de- tachably secure the end cap and bar to the supporting plate and an inclined surface is provided at the rear outer peri- meter of the supporting plate engaged by the set screws thus drawing the end cap into sealing and clamping engagement not only with the end cap but also with the supporting surface, thus eliminating ready detachability by unauthorized personnel yet at the same time providing a smooth finished surface which is easily maintained in a clean and sterile condition.
