LDP label switching may be discontinued gracefully on one or more selected ones of multiple links interconnecting a pair of label switched routers (LSRs) while leaving label switching in operation on the remaining LDP-enabled links. Mechanisms for graceful shutdown of LDP on a selected link are added by way of modification to one or more of e.g., LDP discovery Hello messages, LDP Label Withdraw/Label Release messages, LDP Notification messages.

Selon l'invention, il est possible d'interrompre de façon progressive la commutation d'étiquettes LDP sur une ou plusieurs liaisons multiples sélectionnées parmi des liaisons multiples interconnectant une paire de routeurs à commutation d'étiquettes (LSR) tout en maintenant la commutation d'étiquettes sur les liaisons LDP restantes. Des mécanismes d'arrêt progressif de LDP sur une liaison sélectionnée sont ajoutés par modification à un ou plusieurs des messages suivants : messages de découverte LDP "Hello", messages de retrait/libération d'étiquettes LDP ou messages de notification LDP.
