ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electrical cable having an improved graded insulation, comprising an elongated metal electrical conductor enclosed within a surrounding composite body of insulation including at least two distinct contiguous layers of polymeric insulation having different specific inductive capitance values arranged about the electrical conductor with the innermost layer of the composite body having the highest specific inductive capacitance and each outwardly successive layer of the composite body of insulation having a progressively decreased specific inductive capacitance values of the innermost layer and of the contiguous layer adjacent thereto of the composite body of insulation being a ratio of less than 1.4. This particular ratio of specific inductive capacitance values, effectively modifies or overcomes the disadvantageous uneven stresses in graded insulation cable under high voltage service.
