This invention provides a novel graft polymer that has excellent proton conductivity, is capable of regulating hydrogen permeability, methanol permeability, and the like, and can serve as a starting material for a polymer electrolyte membrane, which facilitates moisture balance control and efficient operation of a fuel cell. A polymer electrolyte membrane composed of such graft polymer is also provided. This graft polymer comprises a main chain comprising a hydroxyl group-containing polymer and a graft chain comprising a polymer containing a sulfonic acid group-containing monomer.

Cette invention se rapporte à un nouveau polymère greffé présentant une excellente conductivité de protons, peut réguler la perméabilité à l'hydrogène, la perméabilité au méthanol et similaire, et peut servir de matière de base pour une membrane d'électrolyte polymère, ce qui permet de faciliter le contrôle du bilan hydrique et un fonctionnement efficace d'une pile à combustible. L'invention se rapporte aussi à une membrane d'électrolyte polymère composée de ce polymère greffé, lequel comprend une chaîne principale contenant un polymère qui contient un groupe hydroxyle, ainsi qu'une chaîne greffée comprenant un polymère qui contient un monomère contenant un groupe d'acide sulfonique.
