A graphite fibril material comprised primarily of an aggregate of an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 100 µm in which fibrils are intertwinned, the fibrils being graphite fibrils of a fiber diameter of 0.0035 to 0.075 µm and spacing of the carbon hexagonal net plane as determined by the X-ray diffraction method of 3.36 to 3.53 angstroms. It is of high crystallinity and purity and is of superior conductivity, chemical stability, solvent absorption capacity and reinforcing capacity.

Matériau à base de fibrilles de graphite composé principalement d'un agrégat dont le diamètre moyen des particules est de 0,1 à 100 mu m, dans lequel les fibrilles sont entrelacées, lesdites fibrilles étant des fibrilles de graphite d'un diamètre compris entre 0,0035 et 0,075 mu m, et dont l'espacement du plan du réseau hexagonal de carbon tel qu'il est déterminé par le procédé de diffraction des rayons X est de 3,36 à 3,53 angströms. Ledit matériau est fortement cristallin et très pur et présente une conductivité, une stabilité chimique, une capacité d'absorption de solvant et une capacité de renforcement supérieures.
