ABSTRACT Apparatus for conducting a gravimetry survey of an earth formation surrounding a borehole comprises a tool 10 which houses a pair of piezoelectric transducers 21, 25 located at spaced apart positions within the logging tool. Each transducer 21, 25 is loaded with a known mass 23, 26 and excited electrically so as to vibrate at a characteristic resonant frequency. The period of vibration of each transducer 21, 25 is measured as the tool 10 continuously traverses the borehole and the difference in the measured periods of vibration is determined as a measure of gravity gradient along the borehole.
