A device for lubricating escalators or moving walks (20), with a lubricant container (11), a lubricant supply line (17), and a control device (14), the lubricant container (11) being arranged in such manner that a lubricant (12) moves out of the lubricant container (11) to at least one lubrication point (15) under the influence of gravity, and a lubricant valve (13) being arranged in the lubricant supply line (17). In order to control the flow of lubricant in such a device in requirements-related manner, it is proposed that the control device (14) opens or closes the lubricant valve (13) making use of installation-specific parameters of the escalator or moving walk (20).
