A cigarette (20) and cigarette paper (22) have a plurality of multilayer bands (30) formed by printing a highly viscous aqueous film-forming composition. After heating the composition to lower its viscosity, the bands are applied to the cigarette paper by gravure printing the composition. The composition is quenched and gelatinized by contact with the cool cigarette paper reducing absorption of water by the paper and reducing wrinkling, cockling, and waviness. Multiple gravure printed layers may be used to form the bands.

L'invention concerne une cigarette (20) et un papier à cigarettes (22) présentant une pluralité de bandes multicouches (30) formées par impression d'une composition filmogène aqueuse à forte viscosité. Après chauffage de la composition pour réduire la viscosité de celle-ci, les bandes sont appliquées sur le papier à cigarettes par héliogravure de la composition. Ladite composition est ensuite soumise à un refroidissement rapide et à une gélatinisation par contact avec le papier à cigarettes froid de façon à réduire l'absorption d'eau par le papier et le plissage, le gondolage et l'ondulation. Plusieurs couches héliogravées peuvent être utilisées pour former les bandes.
