Abstract of the Disclosure GREEN TIRE-TO-MOLD CONTACT TIME DETECTION, ANALYSIS AND CONTROL The mold halves 10 of a tire press are provided with sensors 32, 34 which determine the contact times of a green tire 16 at certain points on the mold surfaces 20. The timing so obtained is processed by a microprocessor 48 to determine the run-out profile of the tire 16. The data is further used for determining the average gap d between the green tire 15 and the mold surfaces 20 both at the time of mold 10 closure and at the time of first contact between the green tire 16 and the mold surfaces 20. This data is then used to regulate the closure rate of the mold halves 10 and/or the inflation rate of the green tire 16. The sensors 32, 34 contemplated include pressure switches 34, vacuum switches, microswitches, linear variable differential transformers and thermocouples.
