A barbecue is provided which has a firebox having front, back and side walls, a bottom and an open top. The firebox has rotatable mounting means for at least two rows of a plurality of spits which extend between the front and back walls. The spits are removable from the rotatable mounting means. Each spit in one row is horizontally displaced from each spit in every other row. The barbecue has a motor for rotating each of the spits in each of the rows. Each spit has at least one adjacent spit which rotates in an opposite direction.
