The tree stump grinder assembly includes a drum with end flanges and a central flange. A left hand stub shaft is journaled in the drum by spaced apart roller bearings, a bearing hub, and a circular plate attached to an end flange. A right hand stub shaft is journaled in the drum by spaced apart bearings, a bearing hub and a circular plate attached to an end flange. The central spindle of a hydraulic motor is non-rotatably secured to the left hand stub shaft. The housing of the hydraulic motor is journaled on the central spindle and is rotated relative to the spindle when hydraulic fluid is supplied through supply passage and is returned to the sump through a return passage. Rotation of the housing drives the drum through keys, ring member and the central flange. Bit and block assemblies on the outside surface of the drum can grind tree stumps and other material. Seals protect the roller bearings from solid and liquid materials outside the drum.
