ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: grinding unit having a conical grinding wheel driven in rotation by a motor fast with a lug connecting it rigidly to a chamber of a jack, the piston of which is fast with a column fixed onto a carriage of a railroad vehicle. The jack enables to cause a feeding movement of the grinding wheel along a direction parallel to the side line of the grinding wheel and defining the cutting depth and compensating the wearing off of the grinding wheel. This feeding movement of the grinding wheel takes place along a direction forming an angle with the axis of rotation of the conical grinding wheel.
