ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A grinding machine for workpieces such as billets or slabs, in which the carriage for the workpieces holds these with the upper surface in an inclined plane, the grinding wheel being mounted on a structure supported by a transversely movable carriage which moves parallel to the inclined plane of the work- piece. The inclination of the workpiece allows the material removed to be flung downwardly and away from the carriage.
