ABSTRACT A grinding mixture is disclosed which can be used to prepare a high density, stable, carbonaceous solids-liquid slurry which has a relatively low viscosity. The grinding mixture has a pi of 5 to 12 and contains about 60 to 82 volume percent of solid carbonaceous materiel, from about 18 to 40 volume percent of carrier liquid, and from about 0.01 to about 4.0 weight percent of dispersing agent.
