Apparatus (1) for grinding a suspension of a particulate solid material. The apparatus (1) comprises a grinding chamber (2), means(7, 8) for introducing a suspension of the particulate solid material into the grinding chamber (2) and an impeller (6) which is rotated and thereby agitates the particulate grinding medium and the suspension of particulate solid material in the grinding chamber (2). The impeller (6) has at least one blade (12), the said blade (12) having a leading face (14) in the direction of rotation (R) of the impeller (6), which leading face (14) is offset relative to a plane of rotation of the impeller (6). In a preferred embodiment, an upper edge of the said leading face (14) is the leading edge and a lower edge of the said leading face is the trailing edge of each blade (12), so that the impeller (6) acts to drive the material in the grinding chamber (2) downwards towards a baseof the grinding chamber (2), thereby compresing the material in the grinding chamber (2). A baffle member (16) comprising an annular plate may be located in the grinding chamber (2) above the impeller (6) at a preset height, so that thematerial in the grinding chamber (2) is maintained in a compressed condition.

Cet appareil (1) est pourvu d'une chambre de concassage (2), de moyens (7, 8) afin d'introduire une suspension du matériau solide particulaire dans la chambre de concassage (2) et d'une turbine (6) qui tourne et brasse le support de concassage particulaire et la suspension de matériau solide particulaire dans la chambre de concassage (2). La turbine (6) possède au moins une pale (12), ladite pale (12) présentant une face de direction (14) orientée vers la rotation (R) de la turbine (6), cette face de direction (14) étant décalée par rapport à la turbine (6). Selon un mode de réalisation favori, un bord supérieur de ladite face de direction (14) est le bord de direction et un bord inférieur de ladite face de direction est le bord de fuite de chaque pale (12), de manière à ce que la pale (6) puisse entraîner le matériau dans la chambre de concassage (2) vers le bas en direction d'une base de la chambre de concassage (2), comprimant ainsi le matériau dans la chambre de concassage (2). Un élément de déflecteur (16) comprenant une plaque annulaire peut être placé dans la chambre de concassage (2) au-dessus de la turbine (6) à une hauteur prédéfinie de manière à ce que le matériau présent dans la chambre de concassage (2) soit maintenu comprimé.
