ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A grinding tool for metal machining is disclosed which allows for rough- and fine grinding in a single operation with- out overheating of the metal in the area of fine-grinding. The tool is structed so that in operation a workpiece to be machined initially is ground by a rough-grinding area comprising a hard matrix and subsequently is ground by a fine-grinding area fixedly connected to the rough-grinding area and comprising a matrix of material that is more flexible than the material of the hard mat- rix. The strength of the fine-grinding area relative to the strength of the rough-grinding area is so dimensioned that, with a workpiece abutting over the entire grinding area, at the out- side the proportion of the entire grinding pressure absorbed in the fine-grinding area corresponds to the proportion of its con- tact with respect to the workpiece.
