ABSTRACT A grinding apparatus is provided with an automatic adjustment device. After each grinding operation, the grinding wheel position is adjusted to a light beam position by the activation of a carriage movement device. This assures that the grinding wheel will grind each object to the same depth irregardless of wheel wear, which is compensated for in the position adjustment operation.
