A device for gripping a load structure comprises a first jaw member having a proximate end and a distal end, a second jaw member slidably mounted to the first jaw member and having a proximate end and a distal end. Each of the two jaw members is provided with a gripper. The device further comprises a fulcrum member mounted to the first jaw member near the proximate end thereof and a flexible element secured to the second jaw member near the distal end thereof operatively coupled to the fulcrum member for causing an externally applied pulling force on the flexible element to move the distal end of the first jaw member towards the distal end of the second jaw member so as to yield a first inward force between the first and second grippers. The device further includes a biasing member mounted to both the first and second jaw members for pulling the distal end of the first jaw member and the distal end of the second jaw member towards one another, causing a permanent second inward force between the first and second grippers that causes the device to automatically grip onto the load when it is installed thereon. The device is particularly suitable to be used for lifting a load, such as a barrel, since the weight of the load can be used as the externally applied force when the device is hung by its flexible element. The first and second jaw members are advantageously in the form of tubes or any other generally flat members so that the center of gravity of the device remains adjacent to the load so as not to unbalance it.
La présente invention concerne un dispositif de préhension pour une structure de chargement comportant un premier élément de mâchoire comprenant une extrémité proximale et une extrémité distale, un second élément de mâchoire monté coulissant au premier élément de mâchoire et comprenant une extrémité proximale et une extrémité distale. Chacun des éléments de mâchoire est équipé d'un organe de préhension. Le dispositif comporte également un élément d'articulation monté au premier élément de mâchoire à proximité de l'extrémité proximale de celui-ci et un élément flexible solidaire du second élément de mâchoire à proximité de l'extrémité distale de celui-ci couplé en fonctionnement à l'élément d'articulation pour l'application extérieure d'une force de traction sur l'élément flexible pour déplacer l'extrémité distale du premier élément de mâchoire vers l'extrémité distale du second élément de mâchoire afin de produire une première force vers l'intérieur entre les premier et second organes de préhension. Le dispositif comporte en outre un organe de sollicitation monté à la fois aux premier et second éléments de mâchoire pour tirer l'extrémité distale du premier élément de mâchoire et l'extrémité distale du second élément de mâchoire l'un vers l'autre, produisant une seconde force permanente vers l'intérieur entre les premier et second organes de préhension qui assure la préhension automatique de la charge par le dispositif lorsqu'elle y est installée. Le dispositif convient particulièrement au levage d'une charge, tel qu'un baril, étant donné que le poids de la charge peut être utilisé en tant que force d'application externe lorsque le dispositif est suspendu par son élément flexible. Les premier et second éléments de mâchoire sont avantageusement en forme de tubes ou autres éléments plats de sorte que le centre de gravité du dispositif soit maintenu adjacent à la charge afin de ne pas la déséquilibrer.
