ABSTRACT A gripping device for gripping nappy work-pieces such as textiles and all sorts of flexible material having hair, nap, fibers or threads protruding from the surface of the material. The device has a base part, one or more gripping elements, and a slidable member which is slidable relative to the base part and provided with a squeeze element for each of the gripping members. The gripping members are shaped as elongated bodies which, in an area close to one of their ends, are adapted for contact against work-pieces surrounded by the squeeze elements. The elon- gated bodies are also slotted along their longitudinal axis and by their other ends are fixed against translatory movements in the longitudinal direction relative to the base part. The slots in the gripping members may be squeezed by the movement of the slidable part towards the work-piece.
