The invention is concerned with a method of grooming channels in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) communication system (10), the system (10) comprising a plurality of system nodes (20) interconnected together by a ring formation of optical fibre waveguides (30) for guiding communication traffic bearing radiation between the nodes (20). The radiation comprises a plurality of wavelength channels for conveying communication traffic said channels being spaced over a channel wavelength spectrum. The method is characterised by selecting the wavelength channels being used within the system to convey communication traffic (active channels) such as to consolidate them into a relatively more compact part or parts of the wavelength spectrum such as to occupy less communication bandwidth.
L'invention concerne un procédé de mise en forme de canaux dans un système (10) de communications multiplexé par répartition en longueur d'onde (WDM), ledit système (10) comprenant plusieurs noeuds (20) de système interconnectés par une formation en anneau de guides d'ondes de fibres optiques (30) destinés à guider le rayonnement portant le trafic de communication entre les noeuds (20). Le rayonnement comporte plusieurs canaux de longueurs d'onde destinés à assurer le trafic de communication, lesdits canaux étant espacés sur un spectre des longueurs d'onde des canaux. Le procédé se caractérise par le choix des longueurs d'onde des canaux utilisés dans le système pour assurer le trafic de communication (canaux actifs) de façon à les regrouper en au moins une partie relativement plus compacte du spectre des longueurs d'onde et, par conséquent, à occuper une largeur de bande de communication moindre.
