A ground cover mat includes a planar polygonal frame and having at least three sides. An upper weight bearing surface is supported by the frame and defines a reference plane. A two portion interlock provided which uses a first body and a second body. The first body defines a first receptacle opening upwardly. The first receptacle has a first inclined plane engagement surface that is spaced from the frame and angled at an obtuse angle relative to the reference plane. The second body defines a second receptacle opening downwardly. The second receptacle has a second inclined plane engagement surface that is spaced from the frame and angled at an acute angle relative to the reference plane. In order to disengage the first inclined plane engagement surface from the second inclined plane engagement surface, there must be relative movement of adjacent ground cover mats both vertically and horizontally.
