Also disclosed is a method of growing tubule cells ex vivo by culturing adult kidney cells in a three dimensional collagen gel in the presence of retinoic acid and epidermal growth factor to achieve tubulogenesis, and the ex vivo renal tubule tissue system obtained therefrom.
