11733 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides compounds of formula (I):- Image (I) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, which have histamine H2-antagonist activity. In formula (I) Z is sulphur or methylene and R1 is hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl, optionally substituted phenyl or phenyl (C1-4 alkyl) (the substituents being one or more C1-4 alkyl, or C1-4 alkoxy groups or halogen atoms or a methylenedioxy group), or optionally substituted furanyl-, thienyl-, or pyridyl- (C1-4 alkyl) (the substituents being one or more C1-4 alkyl or C1-4 alkoxy groups); and R2 is hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl or benzyl. One particular compound of formula (I) is 2-[2-(2- guanidino-4-thiazolylmethylthio)ethylamino -3-nitro pyrrole.
