A guard to protect a lower unit of an outboard motor includes a mounting bracket and a rigid dogleg member depending from the mounting bracket. A clamp support is mounted at a remote end of the dogleg member. A clamping member movable relative to the clamp support. The guard is secured to an outboard motor by the mounting bracket and the clamping member. When in position, the guard shields a leading edge of the lower unit from impacts.
