A guard rail support is removably installable along a roof edge and provides for the safety of workers on a roofing project. The guard rail support is adjustable to provide a substantially vertical fence plane, depending upon the slope of the roof to which the support is installed. The adjustment is dependent upon the pitch of the roof, and provides adjustability for most commonly encountered roof pitches. The support basically comprises three major components: A fixed length base plate, a single upright member with pitch slope adjustment holes therein, and a fixed length diagonal member extending between the base and the upright. The base member is temporarily secured to the roof (e. g., nailed), and the upright attachment end of the diagonal is installed in the appropriate hole in the upright member to keep the upright substantially vertical for the pitch of the roof to which the device is installed. A plurality of guard rails is then installed in tubes attached to the upright. The supports are easily removed when the roofing job is completed, without damage to either the supports or the rails, and may be folded for compact storage and later reuse. Both the support components and the rails are of readily available construction materials, for ease of fabrication and use.
