The guardrail assembly includes at least one tubular metal stanchion, having a base and an axtendable/retractable setscrew, and at least a horizontal top rail. The horizontal top rail has an inner metal pipe, an outer plastic pipe, and at least one aperture for receiving the metal stanchion. Prior to assemblage, the setscrew is retracted inside the tubular stanchion. Prior to insertion of the stanchion into the aperture, at least one tubular plastic sheath, having a first end conforming with the base of the stanchion and a second end conforming with the top horizontal rail, is slipped onto the tubular metal stanchion. Following placement of the top horizontal rail atop the stanchion, the sheath rests on the base of the stanchion and engages the top horizontal rail. The top of the stanchion or the sheath are capable of supporting the top horizontal rail. The top horizontal rail is locked in position atop the stanchion by extension of the setscrew. Disassemblage of the guardrail assembly is facilitated by the easily retracted setscrew.

Ensemble garde-corps comprenant au moins une colonnette de métal tubulaire, possédant une base et une vis d'arrêt extensible et rétractable et au moins une traverse supérieure. La traverse supérieure horizontale comporte un tuyau intérieur de métal, un tuyau extérieur en plastique, et au moins une ouverture pour recevoir la colonnette de métal. Avant l'assemblage, la vis d'arrêt est rentrée à l'intérieur de la colonnette tubulaire. Avant l'introduction de la colonnette dans l'ouverture, au moins une gaine tubulaire de plastique possédant une première extrémité s'adaptant à la base de la colonnette et une deuxième extrémité s'adaptant à la traverse supérieure horizontale, est glissée sur la colonnette de métal tubulaire. A la suite de la mise en place de la traverse supérieure horizontale sur la colonnette, la gaine repose sur la base de la colonnette et s'engage dans la traverse supérieure horizontale. Le dessus de la colonnette ou la gaine peuvent supporter la traverse horizontale supérieure. La traverse horizontale supérieure est bloquée sur la colonnette grâce à l'extension de la vis d'arrêt. La vis d'arrêt facilement rétractable rend moins difficile le démontage de l'ensemble garde-corps.
