A method for preparing multipolymers of guayule resin with methacrylic, acrylic, vinyl and styrenic monomers and the resultant compositions are disclosed. As a result of the multipolymerization, the physical and chemical properties of the resin are improved. The primary advantage of multipolymerization over mixtures of resin with homopolymers is that it leads to a homogeneous material, the properties of which can be regulated by adjusting the ratio of the concentration of monomers in the feed. One attractive feature is the production of low viscosity resins with reactive groups that can compete directly with oligomers and macro-monomers used in solventless inks, coatings and adhesives. The low cost of the resin, a byproduct from the extraction of hypoallergenic rubber from guayule and other plants bearing rubber or rubber- like hydrocarbons provides for hybrid low molecular weight copolymers that are cost competitive with state-of-the-art oligomers.
L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de multipolymères de résine de guayule avec des monomères méthacryliques, acryliques, vinyliques et styréniques, ainsi que les compositions obtenues. Les propriétés physiques et chimiques de la résine sont améliorées comme résultat de la multipolymérisation. L'avantage principal de la multipolymérisation sur des mélanges de résine avec des homopolymères consiste en l'obtention d'un matériau homogène dont les propriétés peuvent être régulées par réglage du rapport de la concentration des monomères dans la charge. Une caractéristique intéressante est la production de résines de faible viscosité avec des groupes réactifs pouvant directement concurrencer les oligomères et les macro-monomères utilisés dans des encres, des revêtements et des adhésifs sans solvant. Le faible coût de la résine, un produit dérivé de l'extraction de caoutchouc hypoallergénique de la guayule et d'autres plantes contenant du caoutchouc ou des hydrocarbures de type caoutchouc, permet d'obtenir des copolymères hybrides de faible poids moléculaire très rentables par rapport aux oligomères de l'état de la technique.
