ABSTRACT A guide assembly 1 for sawing an elongate member 2 accurately to length to form the sides of a picture frame compirses two saw-guide units 3A, 3B which are adjustably clamped to two guide roads 4A, 4B by means of screws 5. The picture frame glass is placed between reference surfaces 11A of blocks 11 on the sawguide units 3 to determine the required distance apart of the two saw-guide units 3. Each saw-guide unit 3 has two pairs of posts 9A, 9B and 10A, 10B defining slots 9C and l0C therebetween for the blade 8A of a saw 8, to hold the sawblade accurately at 45° to the direction of elongation of the wooden member 2, for the eventual formation of mitred jounts between the sides of the picture frame. Each saw-guide unit 3 includes a special ridge 7 to abut that surface of the wooden member which is to surround the edge of the glass 12.
