ABSTRACT A guide bar for a chain saw which includes a groove formed in the edge thereof for guiding the drive tangs of a saw chain. An oil hole is provided in the guide bar for injecting oil into the bottom of the groove to be picked up by the drive tangs for lubricating the saw chain. A depression forming a well for the oil is provided in the groove bottom where the oil is located, and the side of the depression in the direction of the driven chain is m inclined to provide a ramping effect for the oil. Immediately preceding the depression, the groove bottom is raised to provide a dam that reduces the occurrence of saw dust spilling into and filling the depression.
