Guide equipment and arresting device for a lift running at column-like guides (2), which automatically prevent a transmission of guide alignment errors to the cageand an unintended engagement of the arresting device (8). For this purpose, a roller carrier (6) is arranged to be rotationally movable with a rotational centre (18), which lies in the centre of the profile of a guide (2), so that the roller carrier (6) can follow a faulty twist of the profile of the guide (2). The roller carrier (6) of the guide equipment is at the same time also carrier of an arresting device (8). The arresting device (8) is arranged to be vertically displaceable in a mounting (14) firmly connected with the roller carrier (6) and, by way of an abutment (12) with buffer (19), has an operative connection with the lift cage independently of the guide equipment. In the case of an arresting braking, no force action takes place on the guide equipment.
