The guide device is used in the construction of a masonry structure on foundation. The device is composed of an angle iron and a sleeve which is seated on the top of the angle iron. A rod slides in the sleeve and a wing nut screws into the sleeve for selectively maintaining the rod stationary within the sleeve. A flat strip of iron is attached to the free end of the rod and that strip is placed flat against a sheet of plywood or the like against which a wall of bricks is to be laid. Round apertures and slots are formed in the strip for receipt of nails so that it can be nailed to the sheet.
