ABSTRACT A guide wire comprises a main shaft which has a tapered distal end with an anchor formed at the tip of the distal end. A ball-shaped abutment is formed over the anchor at the distal end of the guide wire to limit movement of an over-the- wire catheter past the abutment. The portion of the main shaft immediately proximal to the abutment is flattened into a ribbon to bias bending of the guide wire's distal end and a radiopaque coil surrounds the ribbon and has one end attached to the abutment and its other end attached to the main shaft.
