The guide wire comprises an elongated flexible shaft (2) which is tubular. A coil assembly comprises a first coil (5) having a proximal portion (6) with a peripheral size (P) providing an unstressed fit within the distal portion (3) of shaft (2). Tight recesses (14) formed between consecutive turns (12) of the coil (5) by a solder filler (13) hold adhesive (15) between the coil and the tubular shaft.
