An access port comprises a body including a reservoir, an outlet in flow communication with the reservoir for attaching the body to a catheter and a rigid insert positioned in a bottom portion of the reservoir. The port may also have a body of a penetrable self-sealing material and having an outlet for fixedly attaching a catheter in fluid communication with a reservoir disposed within the body, the reservoir having a rigid insert positioned along a bottom thereof. Alternatively, the port may have a body of a rigid impenetrable material and having an outlet for fixedly attaching the catheter, wherein the body has a self-sealing penetrable septum in the upper portion thereof and either a removable access panel in the bottom portion or a closeable port opposite the catheter outlet and substantially in alignment therewith.
